About Haircare

What is a good haircare routine?

Haircare is really two routines in one: caring for the scalp, which is skin, and caring for the lengths of the hair, which are made of protein and damage easily. A healthy scalp needs gentle, regular cleansing and balance; the lengths need moisture, protection from heat and friction, and repair when they have been coloured or styled. Most hair problems in Pakistan come from a mismatch between the two, such as an oily scalp with dry, frizzy ends.

Korean and Japanese haircare brands approach hair the way they approach skin: gentle cleansers, treatment steps, lightweight serums and scalp-focused products. You do not need many products; a good shampoo, a conditioning treatment and one leave-in step cover most needs.

How to use haircare in your routine

Wash day

  1. Rinse hair thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  2. Massage shampoo into the scalp with fingertips, not nails; let the lather run through the lengths.
  3. Rinse, then apply a treatment or conditioner from mid-lengths to ends. Leave it for the time on the pack.
  4. Rinse with cool water, then blot hair gently with a soft towel or cotton T-shirt.
  5. Apply a few drops of oil serum to damp ends before drying.

Once or twice a week

Replace your conditioner with a hair mask for five to ten minutes, especially if hair is coloured, heat-styled or exposed to sun.

Scalp care

Apply a scalp tonic to clean, towel-dried roots and massage gently for a minute. Massage helps the product spread and feels relaxing, but scalp tonics are supportive care, not a medical treatment for hair loss.

Haircare for men

Men often deal with an oily scalp, dandruff-prone skin or thinning at the crown. Wash regularly with a gentle shampoo, avoid very hot water, and use a lightweight conditioner only on the lengths if hair is longer than a few centimetres. If hair is thinning noticeably, a dermatologist can find the cause; scalp tonics and good habits support, but do not replace, medical advice.

Haircare in Pakistan's water, heat and humidity

Hard water

Mineral-rich water leaves a film that makes hair feel rough and look dull, and can make colour fade faster. Rinse thoroughly, use a weekly mask, and finish with a light oil serum to restore smoothness.

Humidity and frizz

Humid summers and the monsoon swell the hair cuticle and cause frizz. A leave-in oil serum on damp ends and gentle towel-drying keep hair smoother.

Sun and heat styling

Strong sun, straighteners and blow-dryers weaken hair over time. Use a heat protectant or oil serum before styling, keep tools at a moderate temperature, and give hair styling-free days.

Ingredients to look for in haircare

  • Peptides and amino acids: help damaged hair feel stronger and smoother.
  • Ceramides and proteins: fill in rough, porous areas on the hair surface.
  • Lightweight oils: add shine and reduce frizz without heaviness.
  • Rosemary and botanical extracts: refresh the scalp in tonics.
  • Salicylic acid: in some scalp products, helps lift flakes on oily scalps.

Scalp care: the foundation of healthy hair

Hair grows from the scalp, so scalp comfort matters as much as conditioning the lengths. Signs your scalp needs attention include itching, tightness, flakes, a greasy feel a few hours after washing, or redness along the hairline. Wash often enough to keep sweat and product from building up, massage gently instead of scratching, and rinse thoroughly so no shampoo or conditioner residue is left behind. Helmets, caps and hijabs are part of daily life for many people; let hair dry fully before covering it, and wash caps and scarves regularly. A scalp tonic used a few times a week can make the scalp feel fresher between washes, and a clean, soft-bristled brush helps spread natural oils from the roots towards drier ends.

Fragrance and finishing touches

A light hair and body mist adds a soft scent without the weight of perfume oils on the scalp. Spray it onto the lengths from a short distance rather than directly on the roots, and avoid using alcohol-heavy mists on very dry hair.

Haircare side effects and who should be careful

Most haircare is gentle, but fragranced products and essential oils can irritate a sensitive scalp. Patch-test scalp tonics behind the ear, avoid getting serums on the scalp if they make it oily, and rinse treatments thoroughly. A scalp that is red, painful, very itchy or shedding heavily needs a doctor's review, as it may be a skin condition, a nutritional issue or a hormonal change. If you are pregnant, check scalp treatments with your doctor.

Routines by hair type

Fine or straight hair

Fine hair gets weighed down easily. Use a gentle shampoo, apply conditioner or treatment only to the ends, and choose a few drops of a light oil serum rather than heavy creams. Wash when the roots look flat or oily.

Thick, wavy or curly hair

Thicker textures tend to be drier and more prone to frizz. Wash less often, use a richer mask once or twice a week, detangle with conditioner in the hair, and seal damp ends with oil serum before air-drying.

Oily roots with dry ends

This is the most common combination in Pakistan. Focus shampoo on the scalp, keep conditioner and masks below the ears, and avoid putting oil serum near the roots.

Coloured or chemically treated hair

Colour and chemical straightening leave hair porous. A bonding shampoo, a weekly treatment or mask and heat protection before styling help it feel stronger and keep colour looking fresh longer.

Hair oiling, done well

Oiling hair is a tradition in many Pakistani homes, and it can help dry lengths feel softer. The key is how you do it. Warm a small amount of oil, apply mainly to the mid-lengths and ends, and leave it for an hour or overnight before shampooing. Heavy oil left on the scalp for days can trap sweat and dust, which may worsen itching or dandruff for some people, especially in summer. Wash it out thoroughly with one or two rounds of shampoo, then condition the ends. Lightweight oil serums are a modern alternative for daily use after washing.

A simple damage-repair plan

  1. Weeks 1–2: switch to a gentle or bonding shampoo, add a treatment after every wash and reduce heat styling.
  2. Weeks 3–6: add a weekly mask and use an oil serum on damp ends every wash day.
  3. Ongoing: trim split ends every two to three months, protect hair from sun with a scarf or dupatta, and keep heat tools at a moderate setting.

Damaged hair will not grow back healthier on its own, but these steps make lengths feel smoother, look shinier and break less.

Night-time hair care

Sleeping with wet hair, tight hairstyles or on rough cotton pillowcases can cause tangles and breakage. Dry hair fully before bed, tie it in a loose braid or bun, and consider a silk or satin pillowcase or scarf. A drop of oil serum on the ends before bed keeps them soft by morning.

Common haircare mistakes

  • Applying conditioner to the scalp, which weighs fine or oily hair down.
  • Rubbing hair hard with a towel, which causes breakage and frizz.
  • Brushing wet hair from the roots; start detangling at the ends.
  • Skipping heat protection before straightening or blow-drying.
  • Using very hot water, which dries both the scalp and the lengths.

Treatment shampoos, masks and serums last for several weeks of use, so a small routine is affordable. Current prices are shown live on each product page, with free delivery over Rs. 6,000. Haircare: your questions

Which shampoo is best for damaged hair?

A gentle bonding or peptide shampoo, followed by a treatment or mask, suits coloured, chemically treated or heat-styled hair best. Use lukewarm water and avoid harsh clarifying shampoos.

Which shampoo is best for an itchy scalp?

Choose a mild, fragrance-light shampoo and wash regularly. If itching persists, comes with heavy flaking or redness, see a dermatologist to rule out a scalp condition.

Which Pakistani shampoo is best?

The best shampoo depends on your scalp and hair rather than where it is made. Match it to your needs: gentle for sensitive scalps, bonding for damage, light for oily roots.

How do Koreans deal with dandruff?

Korean routines focus on gentle scalp cleansing, scalp tonics and avoiding heavy products near the roots. Persistent dandruff often needs a medicated shampoo recommended by a doctor.

Is salicylic acid good for a dry scalp?

Salicylic acid helps lift flakes on oily, build-up-prone scalps, but it can dry an already dry scalp. Dry, tight scalps usually do better with gentle, moisturising care.

What are the benefits of sulphur shampoo?

Sulphur is used in some scalp products for oily, flaky scalps. It can be drying and has a distinct smell, so it is best used as directed by a doctor or pharmacist.

How often should I wash my hair?

Oily scalps may need washing every day or two, while dry or curly hair can go two to three days. Wash when your scalp feels oily or itchy.

How often should I use a hair mask?

Once or twice a week for most hair types, and up to three times a week for very dry, coloured or heat-damaged hair.

Do scalp tonics stop hair fall?

Scalp tonics support a healthy-feeling scalp, but they are not a medical treatment for hair loss. See a dermatologist if you notice heavy or sudden shedding.

How can I reduce frizz in humid weather?

Apply a lightweight oil serum to damp ends, blot hair gently instead of rubbing, and avoid brushing dry curls. A weekly mask also helps.

Can men use these haircare products?

Yes. Shampoos, treatments and serums are unisex. Men with short hair can skip conditioner on the scalp and use a light product on the ends if needed.

Where can I buy original haircare in Pakistan?

Buy from a seller who imports directly. YESBEAUTY sources through official brand channels and offers a 7-day authenticity return guarantee.
