About Sunscreen

What is sunscreen, and why does it matter so much in Pakistan?

Sunscreen is the skincare step that filters ultraviolet (UV) light before it reaches the deeper layers of your skin. UVB rays cause burning, while UVA rays travel deeper and drive tanning, dark spots and the slow loss of firmness we call photo-ageing. In a country where the UV index sits high for most of the year, from Karachi's coastal glare to the strong mountain sun up north, daily protection is the single most useful habit for keeping skin even, calm and healthy-looking.

The numbers on the tube tell you what you are getting. SPF measures protection against UVB. The PA rating, used by Korean and Japanese brands, measures UVA protection, and PA++++ is the highest grade. A "broad-spectrum" label on Western formulas means both are covered. For everyday life in Pakistan, look for SPF 50 or SPF 50+ with PA++++ or broad-spectrum protection.

Sunscreen benefits: what daily use actually does for your skin

It keeps dark spots and acne marks from getting darker

Marks left behind by breakouts, sun spots and patches of uneven tone all deepen with UV exposure. Brightening serums work far better when you protect the skin every morning, because you stop new pigment forming while older marks fade.

It slows visible ageing

Most fine lines, rough texture and loss of bounce on the face come from years of unprotected sun. A light daily SPF is the most researched anti-ageing step there is.

It protects skin while you use actives

Retinoids, AHAs, BHAs and vitamin C make skin more sensitive to light. If your routine includes any of them, sunscreen is not optional.

How to choose a sunscreen for your skin type

Oily and acne-prone skin

Choose watery gels, fluids and "matte" or "oil control" formulas that dry down quickly. Gel textures such as ISNTREE Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel SPF50+ PA++++ 50ml and oil-control fluids like La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Oil Control Gel Cream SPF 50+ - 50ml stay comfortable through humid afternoons.

Dry and dehydrated skin

Creamier sun creams with hydrating ingredients such as rice, hyaluronic acid or birch sap feel cushioning rather than tight. They are a good choice in winter or in air-conditioned offices.

Combination skin

Combination skin usually does best with a light cream or a fluid that is moisturising on the cheeks without turning the T-zone shiny. Korean "aqua" and "air-fit" formulas sit in this middle ground.

Sensitive and redness-prone skin

Look for calming ingredients such as centella or aloe and avoid strong fragrance. If chemical filters sting your eyes or skin, try a mineral (physical) formula with zinc oxide.

Sunscreen for men

Men often skip SPF because they dislike a greasy feel or a white cast. A clear gel, a fast-absorbing fluid or a sun stick that glides over stubble solves both, and it works well straight after shaving.

Chemical, mineral or hybrid: which Korean sunscreen is mineral?

Chemical (organic) filters absorb UV and usually feel lighter with no white cast, which is why they dominate Korean sun care. Mineral (physical) filters, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, sit on top of the skin and suit very reactive skin, but can leave a faint cast on deeper tones. Hybrids blend both. In our range, AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ is a mineral option, while most gels, fluids and sun serums use chemical filters.

Is tinted or untinted sunscreen better?

Neither is better for protection; choose by finish. Tinted and "tone-up" formulas even out redness and dullness for a no-makeup look, while untinted ones are invisible and layer under any foundation. Tone-up creams can look a little light on deeper skin tones, so test on your jawline first.

How to use sunscreen in your routine

Where it goes

Sunscreen is always the last skincare step in the morning: cleanse, apply any serum and moisturiser, wait a minute, then apply SPF. Makeup goes on top once it has set.

How much to apply

Most people use far too little. Aim for roughly two finger-lengths of product for the face and neck, spread in thin layers. Under-applying is the main reason a high SPF still lets you tan.

How often to reapply

Reapply every two hours when you are outdoors and after sweating, swimming or wiping your face. Sticks and sun serums make top-ups over makeup much easier.

How long sunscreen takes to work

Modern chemical filters protect almost immediately, but giving your sunscreen a few minutes to settle before you step out or apply makeup helps it form an even film. Mineral formulas work as soon as they are applied.

Sunscreen side effects and who should be careful

Most people use sunscreen without any problem. If a formula stings, especially around the eyes, try a mineral or "sensitive" formula. If you notice small bumps, the texture may be too rich for your skin; switch to a gel or fluid. Always cleanse thoroughly at night, ideally with a cleansing oil or balm followed by a gentle face wash, so sunscreen does not build up in pores. Anyone with a known allergy to a specific UV filter should check the ingredient list on the product page.

Sunscreen for Pakistan's heat, humidity and monsoon

Hot, sticky weather is the real test of a sunscreen. In summer, lighter gels, fluids and matte formulas sweat less and feel cleaner under a dupatta or helmet. During the monsoon, a water-resistant formula and regular reapplication matter more than SPF number alone. Keep your tube out of the car and away from direct sun, because heat can thin the texture and weaken the filters over time.

Ingredients to look for in sunscreen

  • Niacinamide: supports a more even tone and helps with oil.
  • Centella and aloe: calm redness, useful for sensitive skin.
  • Hyaluronic acid and rice extracts: add hydration so skin never feels tight.
  • Zinc oxide: the gentlest mineral filter for reactive skin.

How to buy original sunscreen in Pakistan

Sunscreen is one of the most copied beauty products in the market, and a fake can leave you with little or no real protection. Buy from a seller that sources directly through the brands' official channels, check that the batch code and expiry are printed clearly on the pack, and be wary of prices that look too good to be true. Every sunscreen at YESBEAUTY is 100% original and covered by our 7-day return guarantee if a product is ever found inauthentic.

Sunscreen: your questions

Which sunscreen is best for Pakistani skin?

The best sunscreen for Pakistani skin is an SPF 50 or 50+ formula with PA++++ or broad-spectrum protection in a texture you will wear daily. Oily skin suits gels and fluids, dry skin suits creams, and sensitive skin suits mineral formulas.

Which Korean sunscreen is best?

There is no single winner; the best Korean sunscreen is the one that suits your skin type. Soft creams like Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun suit most people, while watery gels and sun serums from ISNTREE and SKIN1004 are better for oily skin.

Which SPF is best for everyday use in Pakistan?

SPF 50 or SPF 50+ is the best everyday choice in Pakistan because the UV index is high for most of the year. Pair it with a PA++++ or broad-spectrum label so you are protected against both burning and darkening.

Which Korean sunscreen is best for combination skin?

Combination skin usually does best with light fluids or 'aqua' creams that hydrate the cheeks without making the T-zone shiny. Look for watery or air-fit textures and avoid very rich creams in summer.

Which Korean sunscreen is mineral?

Most Korean sunscreens use chemical filters, but mineral options exist. In our range the AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen relies on mineral protection, which suits very sensitive or reactive skin.

Is tinted or untinted sunscreen better?

Both protect equally well when you apply enough. Tinted or tone-up formulas even out redness and dullness, while untinted ones are invisible and work under any makeup. Choose by the finish you prefer.

Is sunblock the same as sunscreen?

Today the words are used interchangeably for any product that protects against UV. Traditionally 'sunblock' meant mineral filters that reflect light, and 'sunscreen' meant chemical filters that absorb it.

Why is Korean sunscreen so popular?

Korean sunscreens are popular because they combine high protection with light, comfortable, invisible textures that people actually enjoy wearing every day, often with added skincare ingredients such as niacinamide or centella.

Do I need sunscreen indoors or on cloudy days?

Yes, if you sit near windows or step outside even briefly. UVA passes through clouds and glass, so a morning application is a simple habit that protects you all day.

Can sunscreen cause breakouts?

Sunscreen itself rarely causes acne, but a texture that is too rich for your skin or poor cleansing at night can clog pores. Switch to a gel or fluid and double cleanse in the evening.

How do I choose sunscreen for my skin type?

Match the texture to your skin: gels and fluids for oily skin, creams for dry skin, light fluids for combination skin and mineral or calming formulas for sensitive skin. Always choose SPF 50 with PA++++ or broad-spectrum protection.

Can men use the same sunscreen as women?

Yes. Sunscreen works the same on every skin. Many men prefer clear gels, fast-drying fluids or sun sticks that glide over stubble and leave no shine.
