About YES Western

What is Western skincare?

Western skincare is the name we use for dermatology-led brands from Europe and North America, such as CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, Cetaphil and The Ordinary. These brands are known for straightforward routines, well-studied ingredients and formulas developed with skin doctors in mind. Many of them are recommended by dermatologists in Pakistan for acne, dryness, sensitive skin and daily sun protection.

The appeal is simplicity. A Western routine often has fewer steps, each with a clear job: a cleanser that respects the barrier, a targeted serum with a named active at a stated strength, a moisturiser with ceramides, and a high-protection sunscreen. If you like knowing exactly what each product does, this edit is for you.

Western skincare for your skin type

Oily and acne-prone skin

Start with a foaming or salicylic acid cleanser, add niacinamide or a blemish treatment, use an oil-free lotion and finish with a matte sunscreen. Introduce retinol later, two or three nights a week. Our acne guide explains routines step by step.

Dry skin

Use a creamy hydrating cleanser, a hyaluronic acid serum and a ceramide cream morning and night. A repairing balm on very dry patches helps in winter.

Sensitive skin

Keep it minimal: a gentle cleanser, a ceramide moisturiser and a gentle sunscreen. Add one active at a time, and patch-test first.

Combination skin

A gentle cleanser all over, niacinamide on the T-zone, a light lotion everywhere and a richer cream only on dry cheeks keeps combination skin balanced.

How to use Western skincare in your routine

Morning

  1. Cleanser (or just water if your skin is dry)
  2. Niacinamide or hydrating serum
  3. Moisturiser
  4. Sunscreen, generously, every day

Evening

  1. Cleanser (double cleanse if you wore makeup or water-resistant sunscreen)
  2. Treatment: retinol, an exfoliant or a dark-spot serum, on alternate nights if needed
  3. Moisturiser or repairing balm

Start actives slowly. Retinol, glycolic acid and salicylic acid are effective but can irritate if introduced too fast or used together on the same night.

Getting to know the brands

CeraVe

CeraVe was developed with dermatologists and is best known for ceramide-based cleansers and moisturisers that support the skin barrier. Its range covers dry, oily and acne-prone skin, with simple, fragrance-free formulas that suit daily use.

La Roche-Posay

La Roche-Posay is a French dermatology brand built around its thermal spring water and formulas for sensitive skin. It is especially popular for its Anthelios sunscreens, the Effaclar range for blemish-prone skin and the Cicaplast repair balm.

Cetaphil

Cetaphil is a long-trusted name for gentle cleansing. Its cleansers are often the first recommendation for sensitive or reactive skin because they clean without stripping.

The Ordinary

The Ordinary focuses on single-ingredient or simple formulas, each labelled with the active and its strength, such as niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid and retinol. It is ideal if you like building a routine one ingredient at a time.

Active Nine

Active Nine offers a salicylic acid cleansing foam for oily, blemish-prone skin that wants a pore-clearing wash.

Use the routine for six to eight weeks before changing anything; dermatology-led products are designed to be used steadily rather than rotated, and your skin needs that time to show what is really working for it.

Western vs Asian skincare: can you mix them?

Yes, and many of our shoppers do. A common combination is a dermatology-brand cleanser and ceramide cream as the base of the routine, with a lightweight toner or essence from an Asian brand for extra hydration. Keep the rule simple: one strong active per routine, thin textures before thick ones, and sunscreen every morning.

Common mistakes with dermatology-brand routines

  • Using too much of a strong active. A pea-sized amount of retinol is enough for the whole face; more only adds irritation.
  • Combining several acids. Glycolic, salicylic and peeling solutions together can damage the barrier quickly.
  • Skipping moisturiser on oily skin. Lightweight lotions keep acne treatments tolerable.
  • Applying too little sunscreen. Use about two finger-lengths for the face and neck, and reapply outdoors.
  • Expecting overnight results. Most actives need six to twelve weeks of steady use before you can fairly judge them.
  • Forgetting the neck. Extend your moisturiser and sunscreen below the jawline every day.

Side effects and who should be careful

Retinol, glycolic acid and high-strength exfoliants can cause dryness, redness and peeling in the first weeks. Start two or three times a week, moisturise well and always use sunscreen. Do not combine retinol and strong acids on the same night. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid retinoids and check other actives with your doctor. Burning, swelling or a rash means stop the product and seek advice.

Western skincare in Pakistan's climate

Many Western creams are rich by design, which is perfect for winter but can feel heavy in a humid summer. Switch to lotions and gel textures from May to September, choose a matte or fluid sunscreen for heat, and keep the richer creams and balms for dry months and for night-time.

YES Western: your questions

Which Western skincare brand is best?

It depends on your need: CeraVe for barrier-friendly basics, La Roche-Posay for sensitive skin and sunscreen, The Ordinary for single-ingredient serums and Cetaphil for gentle cleansing.

Is CeraVe good for oily skin?

Yes. CeraVe's foaming cleanser and lightweight PM lotion suit oily skin, and the salicylic range helps with rough or congested texture.

Which La Roche-Posay product is best for acne-prone skin?

The Effaclar range is designed for blemish-prone skin, and Anthelios sunscreens offer oil-control textures that suit acne-prone skin in hot weather.

Can I use The Ordinary niacinamide every day?

Yes, most people can use it once or twice daily. Start with once a day, follow with moisturiser, and wear sunscreen in the morning.

Can I mix Western and Korean skincare?

Yes. Many routines combine a dermatology-brand cleanser and moisturiser with lighter toners or essences. Just avoid stacking several strong actives at once.

Is Western skincare good for sensitive skin?

Many dermatology brands are designed for sensitive skin. Choose fragrance-free formulas with ceramides or panthenol and introduce actives slowly.

How do I start using retinol?

Begin two or three nights a week after cleansing, use a pea-sized amount, moisturise well and wear sunscreen daily. Increase frequency only if your skin stays comfortable.

Are dermatology brands better than other skincare?

Not automatically. They are known for well-studied ingredients and simple routines, but the best product is always the one that suits your skin and that you use consistently.

Is it safe to use these products in summer?

Yes. Switch to lighter lotions and gel textures in hot weather and keep the richest creams for night or winter.

Can I use retinol and salicylic acid together?

Not on the same night if your skin is sensitive. Alternate them on different evenings to reduce irritation, and always use sunscreen.

How can I tell if my CeraVe or La Roche-Posay is original?

Check batch codes, seals and print quality, and buy from a seller who imports directly. Counterfeits of popular cleansers and creams are common online.

Where can I buy original Western skincare in Pakistan?

Buy from a seller that sources through official distribution channels. YESBEAUTY does, and offers a 7-day authenticity return guarantee on every product.
