About Shampoo

What does shampoo do, and why does the scalp come first?

Shampoo has one main job: to lift oil, sweat, dust and product build-up from your scalp so it stays clean and comfortable. The scalp is skin, with more oil glands than almost anywhere else on the body, so the right shampoo is really a cleanser chosen for that skin. Your lengths, which are older and more fragile, mostly need protecting from the wash rather than scrubbing.

That is why many hair problems in Pakistan come from a mismatch. People with an oily scalp and dry ends often pick a rich shampoo for the ends and end up with flat, greasy roots, or a harsh one for the roots that leaves the lengths straw-like. Choose shampoo for the scalp, then use conditioner for the lengths.

How to choose a shampoo for your scalp and hair type

Shampoo for oily scalp and oily hair

An oily scalp does best with a clear, gentle shampoo used regularly, often every day or every other day in summer. Massage it into the roots only and let the lather rinse through the lengths. Very creamy or oil-rich formulas tend to weigh roots down. If you also have oily skin on your face and forehead, washing after heavy sweating can help keep the hairline comfortable.

Shampoo for dry scalp and dry hair

A dry scalp feels tight and may flake finely. Choose a mild, low-foam shampoo with moisturising ingredients, wash with lukewarm rather than hot water and avoid scrubbing with your nails. Dry, rough lengths need conditioner after every wash and a mask once a week, not a stronger shampoo.

Shampoo for a flaky or itchy scalp

Larger, oily flakes and itching are different from simple dryness. Shampoos with salicylic acid, a gentle exfoliant, help loosen flakes from the scalp, and a soothing, fragrance-light formula suits easily irritated skin. If flaking is heavy, painful, spreading beyond the hairline or keeps returning, see a dermatologist, as some scalp conditions need medical care.

Shampoo for coloured, chemically processed or heat-styled hair

Colour, rebonding, keratin services and daily straightening all weaken the hair's inner structure. A gentle bonding or peptide shampoo, followed by a conditioning step, helps damaged hair feel stronger and look smoother. Use a lower heat setting on tools and always add a heat protectant.

Shampoo for men

Men's hair is often shorter, and many men have an oilier scalp, so a gentle daily-use shampoo usually works best. Shampoo the scalp, not just the hair, rinse thoroughly and add a light conditioner if the hair feels rough. Beards need a separate, milder wash than the scalp.

Sulphate-free is not automatically better. It simply means a softer clean, which suits dry or coloured hair but may leave a very oily scalp feeling unwashed.

How to use shampoo

  1. Wet the hair fully with lukewarm water for a good minute.
  2. Use a coin-sized amount, more for long or thick hair, and lather it in your palms first.
  3. Massage the scalp with your fingertips for about a minute, working from the hairline to the crown.
  4. Rinse well and let the foam run through the lengths rather than rubbing them.
  5. Repeat once if you use oil, heavy styling products or have not washed in a few days.
  6. Condition the lengths and rinse with cooler water.

How often should you wash your hair in Pakistan?

There is no single rule. Oily scalps in hot, humid cities often need washing daily or every other day, while dry or curly hair may be happy with two or three washes a week. Wash whenever your scalp feels itchy, oily or sweaty; leaving sweat and dust on the scalp is usually worse than washing often with a gentle formula.

Shampoo, conditioner and hair mask: the right order

Shampoo first to clean the scalp, then conditioner or a mask on the lengths, then rinse. On mask days, swap your usual conditioner for the mask rather than using both. Leave-in serums and oils go on towel-dried hair at the end.

Washing out hair oil

If you oil your hair before washing, apply shampoo to the dry, oiled scalp first, massage, then add water. This lifts oil more easily than lathering on soaking-wet hair, and a second wash finishes the job.

Hard water and your shampoo

Many areas of Pakistan have hard water, which leaves mineral deposits that make hair dull and stiff and stop shampoo lathering well. A final rinse with filtered or bottled water, a shower filter, or an occasional clarifying wash can make a visible difference to softness and shine.

Does shampoo help with hair fall?

Hair shedding has many causes, including stress, diet, hormones, illness and genetics, and no shampoo can fix those on its own. What a gentle shampoo can do is keep the scalp clean and reduce breakage from rough washing, which is often mistaken for hair fall. If you are losing much more hair than usual, or notice thinning patches, see a dermatologist.

Shampoo price in Pakistan: getting value

A larger bottle is better value only if the formula suits your scalp. Specialist shampoos, such as bonding or scalp formulas, tend to cost more than everyday ones but are often used alongside a gentler daily wash. The current cost is shown live on each product page, and orders over Rs. 6,000 qualify for free delivery.

Buying original shampoo

Copied haircare is common, and a fake bottle may contain harsh detergents or no active ingredients at all. Check the seal, batch code and expiry date, and compare the label with the brand's own images. YESBEAUTY is part of the Korean Skincare group: 100% original, sourced through official channels in Korea, with delivery in 3–6 working days across Pakistan and a 7-day return guarantee if a product is ever found inauthentic.

Shampoo: your questions

Which shampoo is best for hair loss?

No shampoo can stop hair loss on its own, because shedding is usually linked to stress, diet, hormones, illness or genetics. A gentle shampoo that keeps the scalp clean and limits breakage is the best everyday choice. If shedding is heavy or you see thinning patches, see a dermatologist.

How often should I use shampoo in a week?

Wash as often as your scalp needs. Oily scalps in Pakistan's heat may need a daily or alternate-day wash, while dry or curly hair often does well with two or three washes a week. Itching, sweat or greasy roots are signs it is time to wash.

How do I use shampoo and conditioner together?

Shampoo the scalp first, rinse, then apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends only. Leave the conditioner on for a minute or two, comb through with your fingers and rinse with cool water. Keep conditioner away from the roots if your scalp is oily.

Is it okay to shampoo every day?

Yes, if you use a gentle shampoo. Daily washing suits oily scalps, gym-goers and anyone sweating through Pakistani summers. Focus the lather on the scalp, always condition the ends, and switch to a milder formula if your scalp starts to feel tight.

Should I shampoo before or after oiling my hair?

Oil before you shampoo, never after. Leave the oil on for a few hours or overnight, then apply shampoo to the dry, oiled scalp, massage and add water. A second wash removes any leftover oil so the roots do not feel heavy.

Is sulphate-free shampoo better?

Sulphate-free shampoo is gentler, which suits dry, curly, sensitive or coloured hair. It is not automatically better for everyone. A very oily scalp or heavy product build-up may need a stronger cleanser now and then to feel properly clean.

Does hard water affect my shampoo?

Yes. Hard water reduces lather and leaves minerals on the hair, which can make it dull, stiff and tangly. A shower filter, a final rinse with filtered water or an occasional clarifying wash helps restore softness.

What is a bonding shampoo?

A bonding shampoo is a cleanser made for damaged hair, with ingredients such as peptides that help weakened strands feel stronger. It suits coloured, rebonded, keratin-treated or heat-styled hair and works best with a conditioner afterwards.
