Skincare for combination skin in Pakistan: care for two zones, not two faces
Combination skin is the most common skin type we hear about from shoppers. The forehead and nose shine by lunch, yet the cheeks feel tight after washing. Buying products for oily skin dries the cheeks; buying for dry skin makes the T-zone greasier.
The fix is one gentle base routine for the whole face, with small adjustments by zone. This page explains how to do that, step by step, and which products suit combination skin in Pakistan's heat. If one side of the balance dominates for you, compare with our Oily Skin and Normal to Dry Skin pages.
What is combination skin?
Combination skin means different parts of your face behave like different skin types. Most often the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) is oily with larger pores, while the cheeks and the area around the eyes are normal or dry. It is a genuine skin type, not a phase, though it can shift with seasons and hormones.
Signs you have combination skin
- Shine and blackheads on the nose and forehead, but not on the cheeks.
- Cheeks feel tight or flaky after foam cleansers.
- Pores look larger in the centre of your face than on the sides.
- Foundation slides off the T-zone but clings to dry patches.
Combination skin vs oily skin: what is the difference?
With oily skin, the whole face shines, cheeks included. With combination skin, oil stays mostly in the T-zone and the outer face stays normal or dry. A quick test: wash with a mild cleanser, wait an hour without products, then press a tissue on each zone. Oil on every area suggests oily skin; oil only in the centre suggests combination.
Why the T-zone and cheeks behave so differently
The forehead, nose and chin have more oil glands than the cheeks. So the same face can produce plenty of oil in the centre and very little at the edges. Heat and humidity switch on the oily side, while air conditioning, cold winters and hard water dry out the cheeks. That is why combination skin in Pakistan often feels oily in June and dry in January.
How to use skincare for combination skin
Morning routine
- Cleanse with a low-pH gel cleanser that removes oil without stripping.
- Press a hydrating toner or essence over the whole face.
- Apply a light moisturiser everywhere; add a second thin layer only on the cheeks if they feel tight.
- Finish with a watery or gel sunscreen, SPF 50.
Evening routine
- Remove sunscreen with a cleansing oil, then follow with your gel cleanser.
- Use one targeted serum, such as a hydrating or vitamin C serum.
- Apply exfoliants mainly to the T-zone, two or three nights a week.
- Moisturise: a gel cream on the centre, a richer cream on dry cheeks if needed.
What is the correct order to apply skincare?
Go from thinnest to thickest texture: cleanser, toner, essence, serum, eye cream, moisturiser, then sunscreen in the morning. Let each layer settle for a minute so the next one spreads evenly.
Combination skin for oily skin and dry skin areas
When the T-zone is very oily
Use a BHA or AHA product only on the nose, chin and forehead, and a weekly clay mask in the same zone. Blot instead of washing again during the day.
When the cheeks are dry or flaky
Skip actives on the cheeks for a few days, add a panthenol or ceramide cream there, and switch to a cream cleanser if washing leaves them tight.
When combination skin is also sensitive
Keep the routine short, choose fragrance-free products and patch-test any new active. Our Sensitive Skin edit has calmer options.
Using each product type on combination skin
Cleanser
A gentle gel or low-pH foam suits most combination skin. Wash for about thirty seconds with lukewarm water, and avoid squeaky-clean soaps.
Toner
Choose a hydrating, alcohol-free toner for the whole face. Pat it in with your hands; if you like a pad, keep exfoliating pads for the T-zone only.
Moisturiser
A lightweight gel cream works across the face. Layer it twice where you are dry instead of buying two creams.
Sunscreen
Apply two finger-lengths for the face and neck every morning. Watery and gel formulas suit the oily zone without dulling dry cheeks.
Retinol and tretinoin
Start retinol two nights a week, on dry skin, avoiding the corners of the nose and mouth. Tretinoin is a prescription medicine; use it only as your doctor directs.
Multani mitti and glycerine
Multani mitti (fuller's earth) can absorb oil on the T-zone, but it is too drying for cheeks; rinse it off before it cracks. Glycerine is a useful humectant, best used inside a moisturiser rather than neat on the face.
Ingredients that balance combination skin
- Hyaluronic acid: water for both zones, with no oil.
- Centella and panthenol: calm and comfort drier, reactive cheeks.
- Fermented and bean extracts: light, soft hydration that suits the whole face.
- Salicylic acid and AHA: spot-use on the T-zone for blackheads and texture.
- Snail mucin: a light, bouncy hydrator that most combination skin likes.
Common combination skin mistakes
- Handling the whole face as if it were oily: strong foams and mattifying toners leave the cheeks raw and can make them flake under makeup.
- Skipping moisturiser in summer: the T-zone may feel oily, but a dehydrated surface often pushes out even more shine.
- Exfoliating everywhere: acids on dry cheeks lead to stinging and redness; keep them where the pores are.
- Changing products every week: skin needs three to four weeks to show whether a routine is working.
- Heavy night creams on the nose: rich textures belong on drier areas, not on the zone that clogs easily.
Makeup tips for combination skin
Start with a light, hydrating primer on the cheeks and a pore-blurring or mattifying primer on the T-zone. Choose a satin foundation rather than fully matte or very dewy. Set only the centre of the face with powder, and carry blotting papers instead of adding more powder through the day. At night, always remove makeup fully before your routine, as leftover base is a common cause of blackheads on the nose.

Combination Skin price in Pakistan: what to spend on
You do not need separate routines for each zone. Put most of your budget into a cleanser, a moisturiser and a sunscreen that suit the whole face, then add one targeted product for the T-zone. A hydrating essence is the next most useful step, because both zones benefit from it. Exfoliants and masks are extras; one bottle lasts a long time when you use it only on the centre of the face. Live prices show on each product, and delivery is free on orders over Rs. 6,000.

Combination skin tips for Pakistan
- Switch with the seasons: lean lighter in summer and add a richer cheek cream in winter.
- Watch the AC: long hours in air conditioning dry the cheeks, so keep a hydrating mist or toner at your desk.
- Dust and pollution: double cleanse in the evening, especially after commuting on busy roads.
- Hard water: a hydrating toner straight after washing helps the drier areas.
- Sweat: after the gym or a hot walk, rinse the T-zone and reapply sunscreen.
