About Puffs & Sponges

Best puffs and sponges in Pakistan: which type do you need?

Puffs and sponges are both soft applicators that press makeup into the skin rather than painting it on. That pressing motion gives a smooth, skin-like finish with less streaking than fingers. The shape and material decide which product each one suits.

Makeup sponge or beauty blender

Beauty blender is the everyday name many shoppers use for a teardrop or egg-shaped makeup sponge. Used damp, it swells and softens, so it blends liquid foundation, concealer and cream blush into a natural, sheer finish. The pointed tip reaches around the nose and under the eyes, and the flat or rounded side covers the cheeks and forehead.

Cushion puff

A cushion puff is a flat, round applicator, often in a soft, slightly springy material, made for cushion foundations. You press it into the compact and tap it onto the skin. Most cushions come with one, and a spare lets you rotate while the other is being washed.

Powder puff

Velour or cotton puffs pick up loose or pressed powder and press it into the skin, which sets makeup more firmly than a brush. Folding a puff in half lets you reach the sides of the nose and under the eyes.

How to use puffs & sponges

  1. Dampen the sponge: run it under water until it expands, then squeeze it out fully in a towel. It should feel moist, never dripping.
  2. Dot your base: place small dots of foundation on the face or on the back of your hand.
  3. Bounce, do not drag: tap the sponge quickly over the skin, working outwards from the centre of the face.
  4. Build where needed: add a second thin layer only where you want more coverage.
  5. Set with a puff: press a lightly loaded powder puff onto the T-zone and under the eyes, then dust off any excess.

Using a sponge for concealer on dark circles

Dark circles are where a sponge really earns its place. Dot concealer in the inner corner and along the darkest part of the under-eye, then press with the damp tip using light taps. The damp foam melts concealer in without pulling the delicate skin or leaving a heavy line, and a small press of powder with a folded puff stops creasing in the heat. A sponge improves the look of dark circles, but it does not change the skin underneath.

Choosing a sponge for your skin type

Oily skin

A damp sponge sheers foundation out and lifts away excess, which helps base last longer on oily skin. Follow with a powder puff on the T-zone for the best hold in summer.

Dry skin

Use your sponge a little more damp than usual so it adds slip and does not cling to dry patches. Avoid pressing powder all over; a puff on the centre of the face is usually enough.

Acne-prone and sensitive skin

Hygiene matters more than shape. Wash applicators often, keep one sponge for each type of product and never share them. Choose latex-free foam if you know latex irritates your skin.

How to clean puffs and sponges, and when to replace them

Damp foam in a warm, humid climate is an ideal home for bacteria and mould, so regular cleaning is not optional. Wash sponges after every two or three uses and cushion puffs at least once a week.

  • Wet the applicator and work a little gentle cleanser or mild soap through it.
  • Squeeze and rinse until the water runs completely clear.
  • Press out the water in a clean towel without twisting, which can tear the foam.
  • Let it air dry in an open, ventilated spot, never in a closed compact or a zipped bag.

Replace sponges about every three months, and sooner if they crack, lose their bounce, stay stained after washing or smell. Puffs that are rough, flattened or torn should also be swapped.

Puffs & Sponges price in Pakistan: what affects value

A sponge that keeps its shape, does not soak up too much foundation and survives regular washing saves you product and money over time. Very cheap foam often absorbs more base and tears sooner. When our new range launches, each product page will show its live price, and orders over Rs. 6,000 qualify for free delivery.

Puffs & Sponges: your questions

How do I use a puff sponge?

Use a puff sponge with a pressing, tapping motion rather than wiping. For cushion foundation, press the puff into the compact, then tap it onto the centre of the face and work outwards. Build thin layers and clean the puff weekly.

How do I use a powder puff sponge?

Load a little powder onto the puff, fold it in half to work the powder in, and tap off the excess. Press it onto the T-zone and under the eyes, hold for a second, then dust away any extra with a fluffy brush.

How do I clean a puff sponge?

Wet it, massage in a gentle cleanser or mild soap, then squeeze and rinse until the water runs clear. Press it dry in a towel and leave it to air dry in an open spot. Never store a damp puff in a closed compact.

Should a makeup sponge be used wet or dry?

Use it damp for liquid and cream products. A damp sponge absorbs less makeup and gives a smoother, more natural finish. A dry sponge gives heavier coverage but can look streaky and wastes more product.

How often should I replace my makeup sponge?

Replace a makeup sponge about every three months, or sooner if it cracks, loses its bounce, stays stained or smells. In humid weather, check it more often, as damp foam can grow mould.

Is a sponge or a brush better for foundation?

A damp sponge gives a sheerer, skin-like finish and is kind to dry patches, while a brush gives more coverage and a polished look. Many people apply with a brush and finish by pressing with a sponge.
