About Toner Pads

What are toner pads?

Toner pads are soft cotton or fabric rounds soaked in toner or essence, packed into a sealed jar. You lift one out with tweezers, sweep it over clean skin, and the pad delivers the liquid evenly while gently clearing any leftover residue. Korean brands have made them a routine staple because they are quick, mess-free and easy to carry.

Depending on the formula, a pad can calm, hydrate, smooth texture with mild acids or help even out the look of tone. Many have two sides: a textured, embossed side for a light polish and a smooth side for soothing. If you prefer pouring a liquid toner into your hands, browse our toners and essence collection instead.

Toner vs toner pads: which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. Pads win on convenience, even application and quick masking; a liquid toner wins if you like layering several thin coats. Many people keep a liquid toner for the morning and pads for evenings, or carry a jar of pads when travelling.

Types of toner pads and what each one does

Calming pads

Soaked in soothing ingredients such as heartleaf, centella or carrot extract, these help settle the look of redness after sun, heat or a breakout. They are the gentlest choice and suit sensitive skin.

Pore and exfoliating pads

These contain mild acids such as AHA, BHA or PHA. They help clear the mix of oil and dead cells that makes pores look larger and texture feel rough, so they are best for oily and combination skin.

Hydrating and essence pads

Rich in humectants and essence, these pads leave skin dewy and plump. They suit dry or dehydrated skin and anyone who wants a quick glow before makeup.

Brightening and tone-evening pads

Formulas with niacinamide, tranexamic acid, vitamin C or glutathione help with dullness and the look of post-acne marks over several weeks of steady use, alongside daily sunscreen.

Spot pads

Smaller pads designed to sit on one area, such as a red patch or a breakout, for a few minutes of targeted calming.

Key ingredients to look for in toner pads

The liquid in the jar matters far more than the pad itself. Read the label for these common actives and match them to your skin's main need.

If you are new to actives, begin with a calming or hydrating pad and add a second jar with acids or niacinamide later. Layering two strong pads in one routine is rarely necessary.

Toner Pads for acne

Toner pads can be a helpful part of an acne routine, but choose carefully. Calming heartleaf or centella pads soothe the look of angry, red spots, while BHA pads help keep pores clearer between breakouts. Use the smooth side over active acne; the textured side can irritate inflamed skin.

Avoid stacking acid pads with other strong acne treatments on the same night. If you use prescription products, ask your dermatologist whether an acid pad fits, or stick to calming pads, which rarely clash with anything.

Toner Pads for oily skin

Oily skin usually loves pads because they leave a fresh, clean finish without any heavy layer. Pore pads with mild acids, used three or four evenings a week, help with blackheads and shine. On other days, a calming pad keeps the routine light. In Pakistan's sticky summer months, a cool pad in the morning also takes the edge off shine before sunscreen.

Toner pads for combination skin

Use the textured side on the T-zone and the smooth side on the cheeks. Combination skin often does well with one acid pad and one hydrating pad in rotation.

Toner pads for dry skin

Dry skin should look for essence or milky, nourishing pads and use them gently, pressing rather than rubbing. Follow with a rich moisturiser, especially in winter.

Toner pads for sensitive skin

Choose fragrance-light calming pads, use the smooth side and patch-test new jars on the jawline first. Skip acid pads if your skin stings easily.

How to use toner pads

In your skincare routine

  1. Cleanse your face and pat it dry.
  2. Lift one pad from the jar with the tweezers, not your fingers.
  3. Sweep it outwards from the centre of the face, avoiding the eye area.
  4. Pat any remaining liquid into the skin.
  5. Continue with serum, moisturiser and, in the morning, sunscreen.

How to use toner pads as a mask

Split a thick pad into two thinner layers if it is designed for this, and lay them on the cheeks, forehead or chin for three to five minutes. Remove them before they dry out, then pat in what is left. This works best with calming and hydrating pads; avoid masking with acid pads.

Textured side or smooth side?

Use the textured side for a gentle polish on rough or oily areas, and the smooth side for soothing or for sensitive spots. Light pressure is enough with either side.

How often to use toner pads

Calming and hydrating pads can be used morning and night. Acid pads are usually best two to four evenings a week, building up only if your skin stays comfortable.

Toner pads in Pakistan's heat and on the go

Pads are ideal for long, hot days. A jar kept in the fridge turns them into a cooling refresher after a commute, and a calming pad over a sun-flushed face feels instantly comforting. They also fit neatly into a travel bag for weddings, Umrah trips or work travel, when a full routine is hard to manage.

Heat and humidity can also dry or spoil pads if the jar is left open. Always close the lid tightly, keep the jar out of direct sun and away from a hot car, and press the pads down into the liquid now and then so the top layer stays soaked.

Sample toner pad routines by skin type

Oily and acne-prone skin

Morning: gentle cleanser, a calming heartleaf pad, a light gel moisturiser and sunscreen. Evening on three or four nights: cleanse, a pore pad, then a non-comedogenic moisturiser. On the remaining nights, swap the pore pad for a calming one.

Dry and dehydrated skin

Morning: rinse or cleanse gently, press on a hydrating essence pad, then a cream and sunscreen. Evening: cleanse, use a milky or essence pad as a three-minute mask on the cheeks, then a richer moisturiser to seal it in.

Dull skin and post-acne marks

Use a tone-evening pad with niacinamide or vitamins in the evening, five nights a week, and a calming pad in the morning. Daily sunscreen is what protects your progress; without it, marks tend to darken again in Pakistan's strong sun.

Toner pad mistakes to avoid

  • Using your fingers: tweezers keep bacteria out of the jar.
  • Scrubbing with the textured side: it is designed for a light sweep, not pressure.
  • Using acid pads every day from the start: build up slowly.
  • Leaving a mask on until it dries: a dry pad can pull moisture back out of the skin.
  • Skipping sunscreen: acid and tone-evening pads work best, and safest, with daily SPF.

Toner Pads: your questions

What are toner pads used for?

Toner pads are used to apply toner evenly, clear leftover residue after cleansing and deliver ingredients that calm, hydrate, smooth or even out the look of skin. Many can also be laid on the face as a quick mini mask.

Are toner pads better than toner?

Toner pads are not better, just more convenient. They give even application, a gentle polish from the textured side and easy masking, while a liquid toner usually costs less per use and is easier to layer.

Can I use toner pads every day?

Yes, calming and hydrating toner pads are gentle enough for morning and night. Acid or pore pads are best two to four evenings a week, increasing only if your skin stays calm.

Should I use toner pads in the morning or at night?

Both work. Calming and hydrating pads suit the morning before sunscreen, while acid and tone-evening pads are usually best at night. Wear sunscreen the next day whenever you use acid pads.

How do I use toner pads as a mask?

Lay one or two soaked pads on the area that needs calming or hydration for three to five minutes, then remove them before they dry and pat in the leftover liquid. Calming and hydrating pads are best for this.

Do I need a toner after using a toner pad?

No, the pad already replaces your toner step. Go straight to serum or essence, then moisturiser. If your skin is very dry, you can press in an extra layer of hydrating toner.

Are toner pads good for acne-prone skin?

Yes, the right pads help. Calming heartleaf or centella pads soothe red spots, and BHA pads help keep pores clearer. Use the smooth side over active breakouts and avoid stacking acid pads with prescription treatments.

Are toner pads good for dry skin?

Yes, choose hydrating essence pads or milky, nourishing ones and press them on gently. Follow with a rich moisturiser, especially in Pakistan's dry winter.

Should I rinse my face after using toner pads?

No, there is no need to rinse. Pat any remaining liquid into the skin and move on with your routine. If an acid pad stings, rinse with cool water and use a calming pad next time.

Can I use toner pads with retinol?

Calming and hydrating pads pair well with retinol. Avoid acid pads on the same night as retinol, at least at first, and alternate the two to reduce the risk of irritation.

How long does a jar of toner pads last?

A jar of 60 to 80 pads lasts roughly one to two months, depending on daily use. Keep the lid closed tightly and use the pads within the period shown on the opened-jar symbol.
