About Oily Skin

Skincare for oily skin in Pakistan: a routine that works with the heat

Oily skin and a Pakistani summer are a tough pairing. By noon your forehead shines, sunscreen feels slippery and makeup slides. The good news is that oily skin usually needs fewer, lighter products, not harsher ones. This page shows you how to build that routine for skin that is oily by nature.

Only shiny in July, or oily in patches? Our Oil Control concern page focuses on mattifying and controlling shine as a short-term goal. This page is the full skin-type guide: cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser and SPF for oily skin all year.

What is oily skin?

Oily skin makes more sebum, the natural oil that keeps skin soft, than it needs. You will notice shine across the T-zone and often the cheeks, visible pores and makeup that breaks up during the day. It is a skin type you are mostly born with, shaped by genes and hormones.

What does oily skin look like?

  • Shine on the forehead, nose and chin within a few hours of washing.
  • Enlarged-looking pores, especially around the nose.
  • Blackheads and the occasional pimple.
  • Foundation that separates or looks patchy by afternoon.

Oily skin vs dry skin: the difference

Oily skin makes too much oil; dry skin makes too little. Oily skin shines and feels slick, while dry skin feels tight and can flake. Neither type is "better". Oily skin often shows fine lines later in life, while dry skin feels more comfortable in humidity. Each simply needs a different routine.

What causes oily skin?

Your oil glands respond mainly to hormones, which is why oiliness often rises in the teenage years, around periods and during stressful months. Genetics decide how active those glands are. Climate turns the volume up: heat and humidity make oil flow more freely and sweat mixes with it on the surface.

Some habits make it worse. Scrubbing with strong soap or alcohol toners leaves skin tight, and many people respond by washing even more. Heavy creams and thick makeup in humid weather can also clog pores.

How to use skincare for oily skin: morning and night

Morning

  1. Wash with a gentle gel cleanser; a low-pH formula keeps skin from feeling stripped.
  2. Swipe or pat on a light toner, such as heartleaf or centella.
  3. Use one serum, often niacinamide, to help balance shine.
  4. Apply an oil-free gel moisturiser, just a thin layer.
  5. Finish with a lightweight, matte or watery SPF 50.

Night

  1. Double cleanse: a cleansing oil or balm first to melt sunscreen, then a gel or salicylic acid wash.
  2. Use your active on alternate nights: a BHA liquid for pores or a gentle retinoid.
  3. Apply a light gel cream so skin does not overcompensate with more oil.

Once or twice a week

Use a clay or mud mask on the T-zone, especially in monsoon weeks when pores feel congested. Skip it on nights you use acids.

Oily skin for acne and pimples

Why oily skin breaks out more

Extra oil mixed with dead skin can plug pores and give spot-causing bacteria a place to grow. That is why oily skin and pimples often go together, although not everyone with oily skin gets acne.

A simple plan for oily, pimple-prone skin

Use a salicylic acid cleanser or a leave-on BHA a few times a week, keep a light moisturiser, and patch single spots instead of drying the whole face. Our skincare collection also has spot care and pimple patches. Deep, painful or scarring acne needs a dermatologist.

Oily but sensitive

If your oily skin also stings or reddens, favour heartleaf and centella over strong acids, and check our Sensitive Skin edit.

Ingredients that help oily skin

Salicylic acid (BHA)

Oil-soluble, so it can get inside pores to loosen build-up behind blackheads.

Niacinamide

Helps skin look less shiny and pores look smaller, and supports a more even tone after spots.

Heartleaf, centella and tea tree

Calming botanicals that suit oily, spot-prone skin that also gets red.

Hyaluronic acid

Gives oily skin water without oil, so it stays hydrated in air-conditioned offices.

Clay and powder

Kaolin and mineral powders absorb surface oil for a matte look between washes.

Serum or moisturiser for oily skin?

Both, in light forms. A serum carries the active ingredient, while a moisturiser protects the barrier. If you want only one step in peak summer, choose a gel cream with niacinamide or hyaluronic acid. Skipping moisture altogether often leads to more oil and more irritation.

Choosing a sunscreen for oily skin

Look for words such as gel, fluid, watery or matte, and an SPF 50 with high UVA protection. Watery Korean formulas feel weightless under Pakistan's sun, while oil-control European gels give a flatter finish. Reapply with a sun stick or powder over makeup if you are outdoors.

Glass skin or oily skin?

Glass skin is the clear, smooth, dewy look from Korean beauty. Oily skin can get there, but the glow should come from hydration, not grease. Keep layers thin, use a watery toner and a gel cream, and blot the T-zone rather than adding heavy highlighters.

Oily Skin price in Pakistan: building a routine on a budget

Oily skin does not need a ten-step routine. A cleanser, a light moisturiser and a sunscreen cover the basics; add one serum when your budget allows. Gel cleansers and toners are used twice a day, so larger sizes tend to be better value. Live prices appear on every product, and we deliver free on orders over Rs. 6,000.

Fake skincare is common online, and oily, spot-prone skin often reacts badly to it. Every product we sell is 100% original: Korean brands are imported from Seoul, Korea, through the brand's official channels, and brands such as CeraVe, Cetaphil, La Roche-Posay and The Ordinary come directly from their official distribution channels. Our 7-day return guarantee covers you if a product is ever found inauthentic.

Oily skin tips for Pakistani weather

  • Blot, do not wash: blotting papers or a tissue remove midday shine without stripping skin.
  • Helmets, masks and dupattas: wash them often, as trapped sweat and oil can trigger spots.
  • Monsoon: humidity peaks, so switch to your lightest gel cream and add a weekly clay mask.
  • Phone screens and pillowcases: clean them regularly to reduce oil and bacteria on your face.
  • Winter: oily skin can feel tight in cold air, so keep moisturising even if shine drops.

Shop oily skin care by brand

Oily Skin: your questions

What is oily skin caused by?

Oily skin is mainly caused by genes and hormones, which control how much oil your glands make. Heat, humidity, stress and harsh cleansing can make it worse, while a gentle, light routine helps keep shine in check.

What is oily skin a sign of?

Oily skin is usually just a skin type, not a sign of illness. Sudden changes in oiliness with other symptoms, such as irregular periods or excess hair growth, are worth discussing with a doctor.

Which face wash is best for oily skin?

The best face wash for oily skin is a gentle gel or low-pH foam, or a salicylic acid cleanser if you get blackheads and pimples. Avoid harsh soaps that leave skin tight, as they can make oiliness worse.

What is the best face wash for oily skin in Pakistan's summer?

In summer, a salicylic acid or low-pH gel cleanser used morning and night suits oily skin best. On very hot days, rinse with water at midday rather than washing again with cleanser.

Which type of moisturiser is best for oily skin?

Oil-free gel creams and water gels are best for oily skin. Look for hyaluronic acid, niacinamide or centella, and avoid thick butters and heavy oils, especially in humid months.

Is a cleanser good for oily skin?

Yes, a proper cleanser is essential for oily skin because it removes oil, sweat and sunscreen without stripping. Use it twice a day; washing more often can trigger more oil.

Which Korean sunscreen is best for oily skin?

Korean sunscreens labelled watery, gel or matte, with SPF 50 and PA++++, suit oily skin best. They feel light in heat and sit well under makeup without adding shine.

Should oily skin use face oil?

Most oily skin does not need face oil. If you like one, choose a light, non-comedogenic oil such as squalane and use only a drop at night. Cleansing oils are different and are useful for removing sunscreen.

Can oily skin be dehydrated?

Yes. Oily skin can lack water while still making plenty of oil, often after harsh cleansing. It feels tight but looks shiny. A hydrating toner and gel moisturiser usually help within a couple of weeks.

How can oily skin glow in 7 days?

In a week you can make oily skin look fresher by cleansing gently, adding a hydrating toner, exfoliating once with a BHA and wearing SPF daily. Lasting glow and clearer pores take a few months of consistency.

Which skin is best, oily or dry?

Neither type is better; each has strengths. Oily skin tends to show fine lines later, while dry skin feels more comfortable in humidity. What matters is a routine that suits your type.

Does drinking water reduce oily skin?

Drinking water supports overall health but does not noticeably reduce oil. Oil production is driven by hormones and genes, so a light, consistent skincare routine makes the bigger difference.
