About Face Wash

What is a face wash and who is it for?

A face wash is a foaming cleanser: it turns into a lather with water and leaves your face feeling fresh and lightly matte. That lather comes from cleansing agents that lift sebum, sweat and grime quickly, which is why foams are the go-to wash for oily, combination and acne-prone skin, especially through a long Pakistani summer.

This edit collects foams, whipped washes and gel-to-foam formulas. If your skin is dry, sensitive or easily tightened, browse our Facial Cleanser collection instead, where you will find the softer cream, gel and low-pH cleansers that barely foam at all.

Foam, whip or gel-to-foam: picking a face wash texture

Classic cream foams

You squeeze out a cream, rub it with water and it builds a dense lather. These suit oily and normal skin and give the most noticeable clean feel.

Whipped and pre-foamed washes

Some formulas arrive as a light whip or mousse, so they need less rubbing. That makes them a good pick for breakout-prone skin that dislikes friction.

Gel-to-foam washes

These start as a clear gel and turn into a soft foam. They clean well but stay gentler than a dense foam, a useful middle ground for combination skin.

Scrub and exfoliating foams

Foams with rice powder, enzymes or AHA, BHA and PHA add a polishing step. Use them two to four times a week rather than twice a day, and see our exfoliators and peels if you want a dedicated exfoliant.

Face Wash for acne: what actually helps

A face wash cannot clear acne on its own, but the right one makes the rest of your routine work better. Salicylic acid is the ingredient to look for: it dissolves oil inside the pore and helps loosen the build-up behind blackheads and whiteheads. Tea tree, heartleaf, centella and matcha are popular supporting extracts that help calm the look of redness.

Keep the routine simple. Wash twice daily, never scrub spots, and give a new acne wash four to six weeks before judging it. If you are using a prescription cream, ask your dermatologist which wash to pair with it, because two drying products together can leave skin raw.

Face Wash for pimples and sudden breakouts

Pimples that appear before exams, during heat waves or after a new product usually call for calm rather than force. Swap to a gentle, low-pH foam, wash with cool or lukewarm water, and keep your hands, phone screen and pillowcase clean. A salicylic acid wash on alternate evenings helps clear congested areas without turning the skin flaky.

Painful, deep or scarring breakouts are a reason to see a dermatologist; a face wash supports that care but is no substitute for it.

Which face wash is best for oily skin?

Oily skin needs a wash that controls shine but does not strip. A low-pH foam with centella or heartleaf keeps the T-zone fresh for longer, and a pore-focused foam helps if your nose and chin feel congested. Avoid washes that leave a squeaky, tight finish; that tightness tells the skin to produce more oil, not less.

Face wash for combination skin

Choose a mild foam or gel-to-foam and focus the lather on the forehead, nose and chin, then sweep lightly over the cheeks. In winter you may prefer a gentle facial cleanser in the morning and the foam only at night.

Face wash for normal to dry skin

Dry skin rarely needs a dense foam. If you love lather, pick a cream-to-foam wash with ceramides or a creamy rice whip, and follow straight away with toner and moisturiser.

How to use face wash step by step

  1. Wet your face with lukewarm water, never hot.
  2. Squeeze a pea-sized amount onto damp palms.
  3. Rub your hands together with a little water until it foams; lathering in your palms first protects skin from friction.
  4. Massage the foam over your face for about 40 seconds, paying attention to the nose, chin and hairline.
  5. Rinse thoroughly, including under the jaw, then pat dry with a clean towel.

How to use face wash, serum, moisturiser and sunscreen in order

The order is always thinnest to thickest: face wash, toner, serum, moisturiser, then sunscreen in the morning. Wait until your face is just damp, not dripping, before your next layer so serums spread evenly.

How to use face wash for men

The steps are the same. Men often wash before shaving because a clean, warm face softens stubble, and an oil-control foam after the gym keeps forehead shine down. Rinse beard hair well so foam does not sit on the skin underneath.

Using face wash with a face scrub

On scrub days, wash first, then use the scrub gently on damp skin, or choose a scrub foam that combines both steps. Two or three times a week is plenty, and never on broken or sunburnt skin.

Face wash ingredients decoded

The front of a tube promises a lot; the ingredient list tells you how the foam will behave. These are the names worth recognising when you compare washes.

  • Salicylic acid: the main pore-clearing ingredient in acne and blackhead washes. Look for it near the middle of the list rather than the very end.
  • AHA, BHA and PHA blends: mild acids that smooth rough texture. Great a few times a week, too much for daily use on sensitive faces.
  • Centella asiatica and heartleaf: plant extracts that help soothe the look of redness, popular in foams for oily yet reactive skin.
  • Amino-acid cleansing agents: softer foaming agents that rinse away cleanly and leave less tightness.
  • Ceramides and niacinamide: barrier helpers that make a foam feel less drying.
  • Clay, charcoal and baking powder: absorb surface oil and give that deep-clean feel; better for oily than dry skin.

If you see a long list of fragrance components near the top, or heavy alcohol in a daily foam, test it on a small area first, especially if your skin flushes in the heat.

Signs it is time to change your face wash

Skin changes with the season, your age and the treatments you use, so the wash that suited you last year may not suit you now. Consider switching if you notice any of the following for more than a week or two.

  • Your face feels tight or itchy within minutes of rinsing.
  • You are shinier by lunchtime than you were before you started the product.
  • New tiny bumps appear on the forehead or cheeks.
  • Your serum or retinol suddenly stings where it never did.
  • Flaky patches show up around the nose and mouth in winter.

Most of these point to a wash that is too strong for your current skin. Step down to a milder foam, or alternate with a gentle cleanser, before blaming the rest of your routine.

Washing your face in Pakistan's heat, dust and hard water

Long commutes, outdoor heat and construction dust mean your face collects grime fast between May and September. A foam at night is non-negotiable if you wear sunscreen; for heavy, water-resistant formulas, start with an oil from our cleansing oils and balms edit, then wash.

Hard water reacts with soap-based cleansers and can leave a dull film, which is one reason modern synthetic foams often feel better than traditional bars. During the day, if you are sweating heavily, a splash of plain water and blotting paper is kinder than a third foam wash.

Face Wash price in Pakistan and buying the real thing

Face washes are usually the easiest step to budget for, and a standard tube lasts about two months used morning and night. Because prices change with each shipment, the live price sits on every product page. Look at size too: a 150ml or 160ml foam is better value per wash than a travel tube.

Bestselling foams are a favourite target for fakes, often with blurred printing or a runny texture. At YESBEAUTY, Korean washes are imported from Seoul, Korea, through each brand's official channels, and CeraVe arrives through its own official distribution channels. We have spent 10 years delivering authentic K-beauty to 200,000+ customers, and a 7-day return guarantee applies if a product is ever found inauthentic.

Face Wash: your questions

What is face wash used for?

Face wash is used to remove oil, sweat, dust and leftover sunscreen with a foaming lather. It leaves skin feeling fresh and less shiny, which is why it is popular with oily and acne-prone skin in hot weather.

Which face wash is best for oily skin in summer?

A low-pH foam with centella, heartleaf or green tea is the best summer choice for oily skin. It controls shine without leaving the tight, squeaky feel that pushes skin to make more oil.

Does a salicylic acid face wash help with pimples?

Yes, a salicylic acid face wash helps by clearing oil and dead skin from inside pores, which supports fewer clogged pores over time. Use it once a day or on alternate days at first, and give it four to six weeks.

How many times a day should I use face wash?

Use face wash twice a day, morning and night. After the gym or a dusty commute, a rinse with plain water is usually enough; washing three or four times can dry the skin and trigger more oil.

Can I use face wash without a moisturiser?

It is better not to. Even oily skin loses water when you wash, so a light gel moisturiser keeps the barrier calm. In Pakistan's heat, a water-gel texture feels comfortable and does not add shine.

How to use face wash and cleanser together?

Use an oil cleanser or micellar water first to dissolve sunscreen and makeup, then your face wash to clean the skin itself. This double cleanse is mainly for evenings; one wash is enough in the morning.

Is it bad to use a scrub face wash every day?

Usually, yes. Daily scrubbing can leave skin red, sensitive and more breakout-prone. Keep scrub or acid foams to two to four times a week and use a mild foam on the other days.

Should men use a different face wash from women?

No, skin type matters more than gender. Men often have oilier skin, so an oil-control or salicylic acid foam suits many, but a man with dry skin needs a creamy wash just like anyone else.

Why does my face feel tight after washing?

Tightness means the face wash, the water temperature or hard water has stripped some of your natural oils. Switch to a gentler foam, use lukewarm water, and apply toner within a minute of drying your face.

Is a foaming face wash good for sensitive skin?

It can be if the foam is mild and low-pH, such as a centella foam. Very dense, fragranced foams are more likely to sting, so sensitive skin often prefers a gel or cream facial cleanser.

How do I spot a fake face wash?

Check for blurred printing, missing batch or expiry codes, a broken seal and an unusual smell or runny texture. The safest option is buying from a seller who imports through official channels and offers an authenticity guarantee.
